What are wicking shirts?
Wicking shirts have become popular in the sports world. Everyone from professional athletes to the locals in the gym can be seen wearing them. Yet, many people don't know what they are or how they might be beneficial when working out. Here is some information to guide you.
Moisture wicking fabric uses patented technology to pull moisture away from your skin when you exercise. It keeps you dry because the breathable fabric pushes moisture to its surface and exposes it to the air where it can evaporate quickly. In addition to the fabric being fast drying, it is odor resistant.
T-shirts have long been the item to wear for exercising. However, they are typically made of cotton. Natural fibers like cotton retain moisture. When T-shirts get wet, they get heavy and weigh you down.
Wicking shirts are sometimes referred to as "performance apparel" because the material is light and leaves you unencumbered as you exercise. It is also very helpful to wear if you suffer from hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
In warm weather, wearing a sleeveless wicking shirt helps keep you cool. In cold weather, a long-sleeve wicking shirt is a great first layer to wear. It moves sweat away from your skin to help to prevent the chills you might get if your skin remained wet with a shirt made from natural fibers.
